To realize this ambition we are setting up a new department within Elsevier, a Data & Analytics Organization.

We are looking for a Head of Business Analytics who will help drive this new organization and who can empower the organization with business-critical and timely insights.

You will report to the Chief Data Officer and will have 4 direct reports. This role will be based in Amsterdam or London.

Your responsibilities

  • Champions the strategic value of data analytics as a business asset, ensuring it is part of the corporate DNA.

  • Develop and drive the data analytics strategy in line with the business strategy and ensure analytics team’s outputs meet the business needs of all key stakeholders,

  • Work with business leaders, technology and data officers in prioritizing activities to drive data strategy and providing value to business

  • Work with an enterprise architect on defining a logical data landscape and use of data, identifying quick wins that can gain buy-in from business

  • Ensure analysis and actionable insights meet business objectives, and proactively identify trends, areas of opportunity, and efficiencies across the organisation.

  • Access the full scope available data sources to identify actionable insights and review regular reporting and dashboard use to maintain optimal data insights and usage.

  • Handle all data securely and responsibly, observing compliance requirements and Company Code of Conduct.

What you should bring

Qualifications

  • Finished University degree and a minimum of 8+ years of data analytics experience in a major services organization, or within a large data environment.

  • Knowledge of industry leading data quality and data protection management practices

  • Proven experience in the application of web analytics in the construction of customer segmentation, multi-variate analysis, modelling, search campaign analysis and path analysis.

  • Extensive and advanced data analytics and data mining skills required - manipulation, preparation and analytical including understanding and use of SAS analyst, WPS, SPSS, SQL and understanding of R and Hadoop

  • Working knowledge of marketing automation platforms and application (e.g. Adobe) and the use and application of data analytics within marketing automation

  • Strong commercial acumen - apply business awareness to data interpretation and translation of analysis into insight. Identify future business needs and opportunities.

  • Strong communicator with ability to both write and present powerfully, to senior stakeholders

  • Experience of managing a data and analytics team

  • The ability to work on multiple projects and manage conflicting demands

You will define an analytics strategy to support the overall business strategy. You will develop a roadmap to grow data analytics capability in line with business objectives. You will help drive a cultural change to become a data driven organisation and exploitation of data assets to create business value. You will serve as a link between data governance, compliance and business initiatives to exploit enterprise data.

The ideal candidate will be strategically, analytically and intellectually aggressive. You will be able to understand the ‘big picture’, identify how data can best serve the broader business objectives and develop a coherent and clear approach for data analytics. You will have the ability to communicate technical requirements, outputs and business issues to a non-technical audience. You have proven success in collaborating with, and applying actionable data insights to, a range of business divisions (for example customer service, marketing and commercial teams).
