If you would like to express your creative and brand strategy skills, our open MCM position in Materials Science could be the opportunity for you. We are looking for someone who has a proven passion for serving and understanding customers, the interpersonal skills to help nurture customer relationships and work with cross-functional teams. The right candidate would be responsible for the brand extension management for the Materials Today (MT) family of journals – the ‘destination house’ approach pilot for STMJ. With the opportunity to use advanced inbound marketing tools, audience segmentation and profile based marketing will be more limited by the width of your brain than the width of our wallet.

This position can be based in Amsterdam or Oxford, reporting to the Senior Marketing Communication Manager.

Your responsibilities

The Marketing Communications Manager will be responsible for content acquisition, content promotion, MT community growth and driving brand awareness for new and established journals within Materials Today family. Specific duties include:

  • Develop and implement a multi-channel communication strategy informed by market and business trends to drive growth and increase brand awareness and grow the Materials Today community

  • Create consistent branding and messaging to communicate the journals’ value proposition and unique selling points to diverse audiences. Ensure messages are consistent across all marketing channels

  • Establish audience segmentation and profile/behavior based marketing, using acquired marketing tools supported by the business

  • Create, manage, and track campaigns targeting materials researchers with the aim of increasing direct submissions to journals

  • Support commercial activities with planning and executing targeted campaigns, such as lead generation campaigns

  • Collaborate with marketing and publishing colleagues across all departments to identify cross promotion opportunities

  • Work with members of the Creative Team to develop visually dynamic marketing collateral that is consistent with Materials Today’s style guide

  • Manage Materials Today’s social media presence through organic and paid campaigns

  • Effectively manage planning, forecasting and monitoring against budget, and understand Elsevier budgetary cycle

  • 3-5 years in a (strategic ) marketing position

  • Broadexperience of (digital) marketing communications tools and techniques, including social media

  • Preferably knowledge regarding scientific publication process, scientific world and its sociologie

  • Basic IT awareness and skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc)

  • Commercial awareness and negotiating skills

  • Experience in working in complex international organizations is preferred

  • Preferably University degree in Marketing
