Monsanto Manager TEC2.0 in BERGSCHENHOEK, Netherlands


  • The Vegetable Technology Development seeks a high performing TEC2.0 (Tomato Experience Center) Manager responsible to manage the newly built high tech TEC2.0.

  • The successful candidate will report directly to the Vegetable Technology Development Area Lead of the Business Unit Glass and will be a member of the TD (Technology Development) Glasshouse Team.

  • The TEC2.0 Manager is responsible for an excellent TEC2.0 glasshouse, in which varieties can be selected and demonstrated. He/she ensures that all data needed for a proper variety selection and positioning is collected and uploaded effectively and ensures a smooth collaboration between the various stakeholders (TD, marketing, sales and Research & development). Further he/she supports in creating great customer’s experiences when visiting the TEC2.0.

Job Responsibilities

  • Crop related

  • He/she determines together with the grower on the location the cropping strategy, where the aim is to generate a representative demonstration glasshouse. This cropping strategy needs to enable good and relevant data collection, with a focus on recognizable variety differentiation.

  • Organizes the sowing, transplanting and planting.

  • Is supporting TD Representatives in executing crop/variety assessments.

  • Organizes and leads sample collections and shipments.

  • Data related

  • He/she is responsible for the entire data collection, which e.g. contains the yields per plot, climate data, crop assessment data, and data obtained from sensors and camera’s. Further this person is responsible for a proper upload of this data in the appropriate data storage systems. As well for the maintenance of the data collection tools and data storage systems.

  • Installs and maintains the crop measurement systems (sensors, handhelds, camera’s etc.) and takes care of uploading the data in the appropriate data systems.

  • Supports the Data Science & Analytics college and the Technology Development Area Lead in continuous development of the data collection tools and data systems.

  • Customer related

  • Trains DeRuiter employees in presenting and understanding the collected data with the help of the to be developed data systems (tomato brains, virtual neighbor, digital platform). Further to explain to customers the presented data and how it is generated and analyzed.

  • He/she coordinates and organizes the visits of (potential) customers, consultants, press and others.

  • Hosting Dutch and international customers, whereby variety specific characteristics can be described and explained in relationship with the cropping strategy.

  • Internal reporting to the responsible Monsanto account manager about the content of the visits.

  • He/she takes care about an adequate and correct administration of the visits.

  • Finance; budget versus actual spending.

  • Maintenance and purchase of Monsanto equipment and tools.

  • Compliance to and promotion of the guidelines of our Environment Safety Health policy.

  • Compliance to and promotion of the guidelines of our quality and phyto sanitation policies.


  • 360 degrees view on business operations (commercial policy, customer support, R&D, Marketing, Finance).

  • Good tomato crop knowledge under glass house conditions. Regarding both under 'traditional' and 'artificial light' conditions, world wide.

  • Minimal 5-year experience in horticulture, where experience in tomatoes is a pro.

  • Education in horticulture at minimum bachelor level and or bachelor working/thinking level.

  • IT knowledge and skills of data and measurement systems.

  • Microsoft Office knowledge and skills of Word, PowerPoint and especially Excel.

  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills in the Dutch and English languages.

  • Demonstrated skills in developing exceptional relationships and networks.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Desire to drive continuous improvement in processes.

  • Ability to influence and work across multiple functions to drive and deliver desired results.
