Philips Usability UX Design Director in Eindhoven, Netherlands
In this role, you have the opportunity to
build our Center of Excellence for Usability and UX and be the thought leader internally and externally within Philips. Your biggest challenge is to develop a common approach and process across the different Philips businesses and Design studio’s and develop process support systems (regulatory, privacy, knowledge management, link to platforms, etc.) to ensure effective development of highly usable propositions. You will further unify the different teams that are now supported by the Usability Community of Practice (CoP) and develop it into a true Usability Center of Excellence (CoE) across Philips.

You are responsible for
Developing the Philips Usability strategy, Usability program and thought leadership.
Developing the Usability Center of Practice into a true Philips Usability/UX Center of Excellence and carry out UX through Philips
Creating excellent UX, both at proposition as on eco-system level, by collecting and analyzing user behavior through logs, experiments benchmark studies, lab studies, surveys, etc. and work with designers, product managers, engineers, and research managers to prioritize research opportunities.
Organizing and participating in design reviews and advocate research findings to diverse audiences through written reports and oral presentations.
Creating usability and UX Guidelines and a Standards program.
Developing the usability/UX capability, skills and knowledge and you develop and drive an efficient and effective global usability processes and knowledge systems enabling the creation and re-use of shared knowledge.
Supporting to ensure the right budgets to execute the activities of the horizontal program, balancing company, group and business budgets.
Managing and building a team of Usability/UX Researchers.
Maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers.
You are a part of
The Usability core team is housed in Philips Design and is the center for Philips globally for all Usability information both regulated and non-regulated. The center facilitates onboarding trainings for new Usability Engineers, has a community of practice, SharePoint including wiki, functions as helpdesk for the organization, organizes yearly usability events and takes care of an outside in perspective. As part of the Design Strategy & Innovation program, together with the leads of other design horizontal programs, e.g. on foresight & trends, design language systems, etc. you are a key player in defining the design strategy. The role reports operationally into the Philips Design Board via the Head of Design Operations. The role is full time and based in Eindhoven.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience
Academic degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology, Anthropology or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Proven knowledge of human factors and interaction design principles, usability methodologies, processes and standards, prototyping tools for creating mock-ups.
More than 10 years progressive experience as an interaction designer/usability engineer.
Knowledge of both the consumer and the healthcare domain and knowledge and experience in applying usability engineering to medical devices and services (according to regulation and standards like IEC 62366) and experience in conducting usability evaluations of medical devices and services
Excellent analytical skills and ability of reporting and communicating results to design and development teams
You enjoy staying up to date on the latest trends and developments.
You have demonstrable experience in developing efficient processes and systems to safeguard usability, pushing companies to a next level.
You have demonstrable experience in managing globally dispersed creative teams.
Excellent communication & collaboration skills and excellent verbal and written skills in English.
You have solid time-management and prioritisation skills that allows you to distinguish the urgent from the important, to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
