Shell Asset Management Company B.V. (SAMCo) in Rijswijk is the dedicated in-house asset manager for the Royal Dutch Shell plc group, sponsored pension funds and insurance companies and currently manages around USD 85 billion of assets for its clients. SAMCo is supervised by the Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) and the Dutch Central Bank (DNB). The company is internationally oriented with clients in 10 different countries and approximately 160 employees. SAMCo’s objective is to provide high quality and cost effective investment advice and asset management services to its clients. On behalf of its clients, SAMCo invests in fixed income, equities, and alternative investment categories such as private equity funds, all over the world. Specific parts of the activities are also outsourced to external managers. About the position and requirements:

We are currently looking to recruit a Financial Analyst / Portfolio Manager Equities to join the Equity department of Shell Asset Management Company BV (SAMCo) in Rijswijk. The Financial Analyst / Portfolio Manager Equities will support a number of Investment Strategies that are managed by the Equity Department on behalf of our clients. In addition to this, s/he may be involved in SAMCo-wide project work.

The successful candidate will become part of the Fundamental Equity team of currently 6 individuals that manages security selection and systematic portfolios in a global context. As a financial analyst / portfolio manager, s/he will frequently interact with the other team members, as well with members of the other (investment) departments. The entire equity team manages around EUR 15 billion of assets in several different portfolios.

More specific, the Financial Analyst / Portfolio Manager Equities will offer support in conducting extensive commercial due diligence work and company valuations. Much of this will involve modelling of businesses and value chains. The job will also entail actively taking part in discussions with various companies under research at all levels of the organisation, external research providers, industry experts and Investment Banks. It will also involve occasional to regular travel to companies under research and conferences. Additional responsibilities will entail familiarizing oneself with the methodology underlying more systematic investment strategies, as well as supporting in portfolio analyses and characteristics reports. In due course, the Financial Analyst / Portfolio Manager Equities will be involved in running the screens and ultimate security selection.


You'll have a master's degree from a leading university with top grades, preferably augmented with an MBA qualification from a leading Business School. In addition, three to five years of experience with a Strategy Consultant and/or Investment Bank (principal investments) and/or Private Equity Manager is required. Alternatively, a candidate from a strategy / business development role at a leading multinational organization may be considered.

  • You have strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently within the context of the equity team;

  • You have the capacity to translate complex analyses into a concise investment case;

  • A strong ability to convey investment opinions in a structured manner, combined with strong communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Excellent verbal and written command of the English language;

  • You are self-starting and are able to think independently and creatively;

  • You are able to tailor your message to your audience and have good presentation skills;

  • A hands-on team player mentality who enjoys collaborating with an international group of experienced investment professionals;

  • You are an experienced user of MS Excel, Powerpoint and Word;

  • You’ll be effective at building relationships, and at influencing and negotiating in a challenging environment.
