The Senior Product and Process Development Engineer Global Oils PPD develops, engineers and documents PPD projects for multiple sites globally. Key tasks are the development of new processes and the FEL (Front End Loading) for New Products and Services Solutions (DNPSS) and High Performance Innovation (HPI), in close cooperation with refined oil sites worldwide, PPD Regional Leads, COE’s and/or Technical Service Teams.

You will be travelling up to 50 % of your working time.

Major Tasks:

ENGINEERING / TECHNOLOGY DOMAIN APPLICATION, TRAINING AND SUPPORT

  • Responsible for engineering deliverables, design standards, planning and implementation of operational vision, direction and strategy for PPD technology areas. Give project engineering tactical support (i.e. preparing of scope, budgets, design flows/diagrams, commissions, start-up schedules, equipment selection, process documentation, instrumentations/controls, etc.) to projects using new proprietary PPD processes. Where applicable, may provide direction and assign tasks to more junior engineers, technicians and support staff.

  • Act as subject matter expert for modelling and process engineering for new PPD processes

  • Identify independently more complex technical issues and may directly/indirectly resolve more complex matters associated with the processes and equipment developed by PPD.

  • Apply data analytics software such as Minitab and process modelling software such as Aspen Engineering Suite

  • Identify new opportunities for process improvement by analysing production data and developing process control strategies aligned with business objectives

  • Act as subject matter expert for, and may lead in conjunction with Strategic Sourcing, activities related to vendor selection. Assist/support in negotiating more complex purchasing agreements related to proprietary PPD processes.

CAPITAL PLANNING / PROJECT / PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT

  • Provide input to the project pipelines/portfolios (HPI/DNPSS) with ideas applying distinctive product and process engineering/technology applications.

  • Provide timely communication to key stakeholders (operations, business leadership, technology, and engineering) on project performance and technology efforts.

  • Prepare scope of work, project objectives and design criteria, drawings, process documentation, equipment requirements, cost estimates and appropriate scheduling.

  • Lead at least one PPD core technology area.

BEST PRACTICES GOVERNANCE / DELIVERY

  • Support the development of new technology standards/procedures by setting-up tools and reporting mechanisms to monitor the performance (Control Plan). May directly be responsible for the documentation and dissemination of findings, as well as transfer/application of proprietary PPD knowledge.

GAP ASSESSMENT / SOLUTION IDENTIFICATION / MEASUREMENT

  • Maintain strong business/customer partnership to assess/identify technology gaps and process improvement opportunities.

  • Identify, propose and/or deploy appropriate technology solution considering overall safety standards, food safety, quality, process safety, capacity, reliability, environmental and costs constraints. Develop cost scenarios to achieve solutions objectives and substantiates benefits/limitations of each option. Summarize findings in good quality reports.

Qualifications

  • University degree in chemical and mechanical (or similar) engineering

  • Ability to identify new opportunities, develop business cases and manage process control projects

  • Strong knowledge of process engineering fundamentals and unit operations

  • Fluent English, written and oral ( preferably 2nd foreign language)

  • 8 years of relevant working experience in Plant Operations

  • Relevant working experience in Chemical Plant Construction Management

  • Adequate experience in process industry (preferably edible oil refining), engineering or project management

  • Experience in chemical process modelling and simulation (whole-process or detailed unit operation)

  • Experience with OSISoft, PI data historian and PI Batch

  • Previous experience/education with conceptual design and/or optimization of chemical manufacturing processes

  • Personal experience in operating equipment and processes “on the floor”
