Brown-Forman Operations & R&D Manager, Stein Office in Stein, Netherlands
Scope of Position:
Direct, lead, and manage production operations at co-packing partners in Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as the Stein Concentrate plant. Volume managed is about 2.0 MM 9-liter cases across 3 facilities in 2 countries. Lead a staff of approximately 7. Responsible for meeting performance metrics in safety, quality, customer service, environmental compliance, and cost containment.
Lead and provide overall operational direction and consistency to enhance productivity, quality, safety and customer service. Is a strategic partner with internal resources. Directly manage the relationship with co-packing partners.
Provide leadership, influence and expertise to formulate a shared vision. Clearly, communicate the vision and obtain commitment to goals and action plans.
Lead Research & Development function as well as New Product Development activities for BF’s European Operations (including for products to be bottled at Co-Pack Operations).
Plan, coordinate and control of processes for the concentrates production. Ensure that all concentrates are produced efficiently and that the correct amount is produced at the right cost, the level of quality and in time to support production at bottling facilities.
Production / Safety / QC / Environmental (40%):
In charge of forecasting the concentrate needs and oversee the production process to support said needs.
Procurement - Oversee procurement activities for the concentrate plant
Direct, lead, and manage production direction given to co-packers.
Drive safety initiatives. Ensure that safe working conditions exist and that all programs and policies are effectively implemented and practised; including European OSHA and ATEX.
Ensure compliance with BF quality standards and systems at BF and co-packing facilities.
Ensure adherence to plant sanitation and GMP programs and procedures.
Ensure accurate documentation of production at the copackers as well as quality control data and records.
Planning Administration (20%):
Provide leadership and vision to the organisation by assisting the staff with the development of long-range plans, annual plan and budget, and with the evaluation and reporting of progress on plans.
Delegate appropriate authority and responsibilities to managers on staff to coordinate and expedite activities in the areas of manufacturing, engineering, scheduling, production, materials, maintenance, employee relations and various other functions.
Direct and lead the relationship with co-packers.
Direct, lead and support continuous improvement of operating practices and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Ensure B-F’s risk management requirements are met at BF sites and at co-packers.
HR Management (20%):
Provide coaching to direct reports for personal development and growth. Resolve performance issues through coaching and/or coordination with HR for training and development. Lead the performance management process.
Lead and manage employee development and training.
Foster employee relations and morale.
Oversee compliance with local regulations.
Recruit and/or contract staff.
Financial Management (10%):
Provide leadership, direction, and accountability to meet or exceed the cost.
Direct and coordinate organisation's financial and budget activities, maximise return on investments and increase efficiency.
Negotiate and approve Co-packer fees.
Provide recommendations regarding investments.
R&D, New Product Development (10%):
Concentrate Development – Creation of all new flavour concentrates for new initiatives or line extensions for the EU market.
SKU Management – Collection and management of product information for all products and ingredients for the EU market.
Compliance – Liaising with Legal, Flavor Houses and Spirits Europe to ensure continued compliance for all products and ingredients.
EU Production Support – Support of Co-packers for New Product Launches for the EU Market.
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, manufacturing, food science, or business with at least 7 years of operations experience in a manufacturing environment.
Good understanding of compliance requirements within the European Union.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage/motivate people and projects; ability to multi-task and work with results focus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels.
Excellent planning, financial, root cause analysis and conceptual skills.
Ability to travel 20% of the time.
Has a demonstrated passion for the core values of the company
Experience bottling spirit based or carbonated beverages, quality, safety, inventory control, and personnel management.
Experience with ERP systems (SAP or equivalent).
