Dow Chemical Campus Internship - Creaming dynamics of silicone emulsion in Zeeland, Netherlands

The Dow Chemical Company is offering great business career opportunities in a global and international environment. We are looking for an ambitious Student (m/f) supporting our business who is interested in an Internship onCreaming Dynamics of Silicone Emulsion

Project Description:

Silicone emulsions are inert, heat stable, non-toxic products, which suit many industrial applications where lubrication, gloss, antistatic, protective and release properties are advantageous. Designing a silicone emulsion to perform in a final product application is challenging. One of the critical customer requirements is stability over time. Indeed, it is observed that after a certain period of time a phase separation occurs characterized by a sharp concentration gradient of silicon droplets in the solution. This phenomenon is called creaming. This recurrent quality issue takes a very long time to be measured and therefore being able to predict the creaming process is highly valuable. In this student project, from knowing certain key parameters of an emulsion and using main physical assumptions, the student would have to predict creaming rates and more specifically shelf life of various silicon emulsions.

The successful candidate will need good understanding of polymer physico-chemistry. In this internship you will be welcomed by a young international and multidisciplinary team.

  • You are studying for a Masters degree.

  • The ideal candidates are scientists or engineers from a multitude of technical disciplines with a focus on materials science, chemistry, biotechnology, chemical engineering and microbiology.

  • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong initiative and open to working in a diverse environment with colleagues from around the world.

  • Fluency in English is essential, other languages are a plus (especially Dutch).
