We are looking for an imaginative visual designer with a systematic approach and a strong user focus, to create solutions that drive coherence across many Elsevier products. You will work directly with designers, product managers and developers. About the project

Elsevier has a vast portfolio of products and solutions ( https://www.elsevier.com/solutions ), each serving different needs of researchers and clinicians. Since these products are part of our users’ workflow, our products need to be connected. You will help users experiencing a seamless Elsevier ecosystem.

The first phase focuses on shared components and features such as product identity, sign-in, privacy settings, account settings, and help. You will investigate various brand scenarios such as co-branding, white-labelling, and institutional branding. Next phases will focus on further alignment and integration resulting in an Elsevier design system. Throughout the project we conduct user research and a/b testing, to refine our metrics and to understand our users.

You will work across the company with product teams including Developers, UX Specialists and Visual Designers. You will shape and evolve a consistent brand experience collaborating with a central project and design team. You will mentor teams to efficiently and accurately implement the designed components. It will be your objective to make it as easy as possible for the rest of the organization to follow and apply global design guidelines and UX patterns and arrive at a coherent, scalable and world-class user experience for Elsevier customers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Create and own well-crafted designs that contribute to a consistent visual language across multiple products, and are part of the Elsevier brand digital style.

  • Explore design solutions in and across products, by expressing many alternative ideas.

  • A positive, constructive approach with an emphasis on collaboration and flexibility.

  • Interest and passion for creating design systems at large, making the rest of the organisation more agile and increasing quality of the user experience.

  • Work with UX designers, interaction designers, product managers, and developers to ensure designs meet user needs and deliver business goals.

  • Accessibility and browser compatibility hold no secrets for you.

  • Technical and personal skills strong enough to mentor cross-functional teams. Strong communication skills and fluency in English. Manage relationships with customers, users, product managers, designers and developers.

  • Actively work on improving the UX design process and the quality of UX deliverables, with a focus on the Elsevier design system and style guide.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Graphic Design, Typography, Interaction Design or related discipline.

  • At least 3 year experience of designing complex information and workflow products across web and mobile.

  • Proven track record of highly creative, detail-oriented design that meets user needs, product requirements, and business goals.

  • Experience with creating, maintaining and applying design systems, style guides, and pattern libraries.

  • Excellent skills in typography and composition.

  • Always thinking of the user first and approach design from a user point of view, based on actual data.

  • Experience working in an agile environment with product owners and developers, demonstrated capability to rationalise your design solutions and convince stakeholders.

  • Understand the importance of accessibility, and knows how to make designs accessible from the start. Up to speed with guidelines like WCAG2.0.

  • Experience with using HTML and CSS as design tools is an advantage.

  • A website or digital portfolio that showcases your design work.

  • Fluent in English.
