Job Description

In this newly created senior communications role, you’ll be a leader in Shell’s Internal Communications Centre of Excellence (CoE) and the main interface for the delivery of internal communications for our IT functions.

What’s the role?

We need someone with the presence and authority to become a true strategic partner. The relationships you cultivate with key internal stakeholders will strengthen employee engagement with IT, ensuring that our people feel connected with our strategy and understand how they can play a part in our progress.

You’ll need to forge fruitful relationships with our IT leadership and gain a deep affinity for the IT agenda. Moving forward, you’ll develop strategies and plans that will engage the wider business with IT initiatives, including projects intended to drive productivity and support new ways of working. Your remit also includes: developing and managing a three-strong comms team, coaching senior IT leaders, applying strategic measurement analysis, and managing a departmental budget.

On a more strategic level, you can look forward to supporting our VP Internal Communications as a leader in the Internal Comms CoE and driving functional expertise, development and alignment. Ultimately, this is a role with huge scope to make a personal impression on a global business.

Where you fit in

You’ll be part of Shell’s Internal Communications Centre of Excellence (CoE). Established to develop and execute Shell’s internal communications strategy on a global basis, the CoE supports the delivery of our business goals by ensuring consistency in strategy, systems, processes and tools across corporate, business and functional internal communications.

The key objectives of the CoE are to:

  • Connect staff with business strategy to ensure each employee understands their personal contribution to the company’s success;

  • Connect leaders with staff at all levels to strengthen employee engagement and motivation;

Drive a high-performance culture and connect the organisation with the external world and customers.

Requirements

What we need from you

You’ll need to be a senior communications professional with rich experience of developing, managing and executing strategic communications in support of business objectives – someone who’s mastered the art of providing strategic counsel at the highest levels

You’ve probably worked in a similar corporate role, securing the trust of senior leaders as a strategic business partner, counsellor and adviser. Or, you may have honed your communications experience in an agency or consultancy, as an account director or client-relationship manager.

If that’s you, and your CV includes some (ideally all) of the following, then we’d like to talk to you:

  • Success in building and leading a cohesive team and developing other communications professionals.

  • Proven ability to deliver successfully through others; you can influence without authority, build collaborative relationships focused on shared outcomes and maintain a high level of emotional intelligence.

  • Experience in juggling multiple projects, delegating work, assigning resources, managing budgets and evaluating impacts/ROI; you’re comfortable delivering against time pressures and shifting priorities.
